Indigo Gabbro is a fairly new discovery from Madagascar that was submitted to be trademarked as Mystic Merlinite, however Indigo Gabbro is the correct geological name. Indigo Gabbro rates as a 6-6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
How to recognise Indigo Gabbro
Marketing and trademark names cause a lot of confusion in the crystal world ... For example Indigo Gabbro, aka Mystic Merlinite, is often confused with Merlinite and Blizzard Stone, however they are not the same crystal.
Indigo Gabbro, a black crystal with grey splotches, has a lavender tinge under the sunlight. When polished, Indigo Gabbro is really nice and shiny.
Blizzard Stone, another marketing name, is a form of Gabbro that is black with white specks, however it is still different to Indigo Gabbro and isn't shiny when polished.
Meanwhile Merlinite, which is the marketing name for Dendritic Agate, is a white crystal with black patterns that resemble tree branches (and is not a form of Gabbro).
Metaphysical Properties of Indigo Gabbro
Indigo Gabbro is said to be a great crystal to use for spiritual work and intuition. This crystal has been found to be extremely grounding as well as having the ability to connect you with your higher consciousness. Indigo Gabbro crystals can also locate energy blockages in the body and align all the chakras.
Physically, Indigo Gabbro crystals can be used to help the immune system, ease fevers (including hot flushes), menopause, period pains, swelling, bruising and sprains.
Philip Permutt, in his book The Crystal Healer Volume 2, describes Indigo Gabbro as "a real follow-your-heart stone" and that it "Brings up deep-rooted issues that can make you aware of your dark side, encouraging you to let them go and achieve yin/yang balance".
One of the best ways to start working with this crystal is through meditation. Meditating with Indigo Gabbro can help you connect deeply with your intuition, developing your abilities with clairaudience (sensing energy by hearing), claircognizance (sensing energy by inner-knowing), clairsentience (sensing energy by feeling) and clairvoyance (sensing energy by seeing).
Finally, Indigo Gabbro is said to be an ideal crystal to use with shadow work, which is a hot topic right now. Shadow work is when you delve into your light and dark sides, allowing you to recognise, understand and balance what makes you, individually you. Shadow work is a journey I am about to embark on, with the help of my trusted crystals ... This will be an ongoing process, and is something I'm excited to jump into!
